ACE Ecommerce Expert Interview With Rico Huang

Hello guys! We meet again in ACE Ecommerce Expert Interview. Now I present you the man behind the scene which I’ve already show you the footage of his warehouse downstair He is Rico Huang The Internet Entrepreneur, who very successful very young and very inspirative and in this situation, I’m going to interview, and ask a little bit about how he started and how he can achieve all of his success So thank you Mr. Rico Huang thank you for inviting me thank you so much because It’s been a long time since I knew Rico But it’s like I never knew how Rico started everything So, Let’s jump right in maybe, you can start and tell us about your background Was Rico learned E-commerce abroad? Was Rico had some extraordinary skills? Or how Rico can enter this business? So I started this because I live in Jakarta South Jakarta and my parent’s house was burned down because next to it was a ‘warteg’ So, because that accident, my parents could only afford my tuition fee and I didn’t get any allowance and they taught me how to get my own income So, since I was young, I already sold so many things How old were you at that time? It was Junior High School /So, since Junior High School you’ve been taught to get your own income Yes, but I exactly started selling things at around 9th grader at that time I sold many different things, until high school I sold ‘Nasi Uduk’, Phone Accesories, I sold almost everything Till I finally graduated from High School, then I went to college In college, I fully went on my own from my income in online selling So in college you paid everything by yourself? For the registration fee, I still got help from my parents But the monthly tuition, I paid it on my own It’s Amazing, You are very independence since 18 years old Actually since high school I paid my monthly tuition on my own So I got no allowance at all from my parents in High school you also paid your tuition by yourself? Amazing because my parents always taught me to try selling and helping, start from helping my own father selling watches, till I seling online on my own So, Parent’s education is very important to help you grow Yes it is, they who triggered me to sell online like this and after that, in the college I started to think to focus on Selling There was a time, when I considered between studying and selling cause both have their own advantages In the end I chose to focus only on selling and leave the college but I keep learning untill now So I attended so many Seminars, either from Indonesia or abroad to upgrade myself And now I really focus on Selling online So Rico started to focus selling in the age of 18 and in the later Rico decided to leave college in order to focus on selling So it is like Mark Zuckenberg, isn’t it? yeaah, but not exactly, I never think of it my focus is like “I really want to focus on business” because when I’m in college my business was really declining is it your parents business? nope my business Ah, your own business I already had 2 Employees and they were stealing inventories because the system was not really good at that time But then I focused on selling I wanted to grow my business to be even bigger that’s amazing, at the age of 18, when everybody still think about playing around, going to college but Rico had different concern started to think about business and had to organize the systems in it In college, actually everything has it own Pros and Cons after all, I didn’t get better mentor compared to my college friends But I cover that hole by attending seminars and workshops and suprisingly, the fee were even two or three times more expensive than college itself so the sum of like books that I bought for example So in the first place Rico self-learned everything, didn’t it? yes, autodidactically by attending those seminars right? that’s interesting /until I met all my mentors, and met you also and learned and elsewhere, so then I decided to take the best path So it’s feel that college was not my best path Could you tell me, what did you sell when first time started? you said you started in 18th and even get frauded by your employee I was selling Phone Accessories at first I got it from one of my relatives then I sold it to my college friends at that time blackberry was a hit and a lot of people had problem with its battery they also need accessories, so I provided it as the time went by, there was Kaskus and TokoBagus.com before OLX, so I also sold it there I got online sales from there and then I tried to sell “Nasi Uduk” Cause at the school’s cafetaria, the foods were expensive So, I sold Nasi Uduk to gain more profits ooh, so you also sold Nasi Uduk Did you cook it yourself? No, no, in front of my house, there’s someone sold it And then it continued until I graduated from high school until I had my own fund to start my own businesses selling Mie Ayam but at that time I was not focus enough cause I sold Mie Ayam, while also selling Phone Accessories and I was starting get the stock of the accessories on my own was trying to be a supplier that’s why I hired 2 employees and in order to sell Mie Ayam I invested 15 million rupiahs But in the end it closed cause I thought that Mie Ayam business was easy I thought the system was very easy and it will go smoothly but the reality, problem like the taste was not good enough, or just me that not commited enough so I decided to closed it So, was that your first investation? yes, first failed investation how old were you at that time? I just graduated high school Amazing! /but then phone accessories business was still on going but I also entered college at that moment so I left the stocks at home I didn’t really have good system I had already attended some seminars though with the price around 5 millions about social media marketing but my stocks at home were stolen by my employees cause I was not there, I started renting rooms near my campus So, the distance between my home to campus is about one and a half hour instead of spending time commuting for 3 hours I decided to live near my campus unfortunately, in my home my employees started stealing things and then sold it on their owns I realized it when my money start to run out but of course I learned from that and made it valuable experience for me I think that almost everyone who started business have this kind of problems yeah for sure, everyone have their own failed experience or another worse experience that can be fixed So, when rico started with two people at that time there are no system How did you fix that? and even until now, I see that you have very good system At first, I started from sales of course like I said, two people, cause I focused on becoming supplier So in marketplace or social media I sold with very low price, and with low profit to get many Reseller and many connections with those who have offline store So
